What To Ask If YouÂre Traveling With a Pet
Pet travel is becoming more and more commonplace, however, it's not as simple as just showing up at a hotel with your pet in tow. Here are a few questions that every informed traveler should ask prior to booking a room for the family (and the family pet!).

Traveling with a furry, four-legged family member can present a daunting challenge when it comes to locating Âpet-friendly accommodations. Although an increasing number of lodgings now allow pets, travelers should always inquire about individual pet policies prior to booking.
ÂAccommodations vary in degrees of Âpet-friendlinessÂ. Take a little time to find lodgings that suit both you and your pet  then you wonÂt have to worry about any surprises when you arrive, says Angela Lynch, founder of The Pet Friendly Canada Directory at http://www.PetFriendly.ca. Pet policies can change, so travelers should always confirm prior to bringing their pets.
Some questions to ask include:
- Are there additional fees? Although some accommodations do not charge extra for pets, most will charge a one-time cleaning fee per stay, or a fee per pet/night.
- What types, size, and maximum number of pets are accepted? Accommodations that allow dogs may not necessarily allow other pets, including cats. Others permit pets under a certain size and may restrict the number of pets per room.
- Are there resident pets? Smaller accommodations such as Bed & Breakfasts or cottage resorts often have resident pets that may mingle with guests. Guest and resident pets should be able to coexist peacefully.
- What other rules or restrictions apply to pets? Some accommodations will allow your pet full run of the room or suite, while others request that pets stay off the furniture and out of certain areas such as picnic grounds or beaches. Most will require that pets be leashed in public areas and some will ask you to sign a waiver at check-in. By respecting the rules and the other guests, travelers with pets can help ensure that pets continue to be welcomed.
- What type of rooms are available to pet owners? Accommodations try to ensure all their guests have an enjoyable stay  including people with allergies. As such, there may be only a limited number of Âpet-friendly rooms available. If you prefer a non-smoking room, be sure to ask if they are available to guests with pets.
- What other services are available for pets? For instance, some lodgings may offer food and water bowls, waste bags, a grassy area where dogs may be walked, pet-sitting or dog-walking services, a list of nearby dog parks, or a welcome basket with a pet toy and goodies.
