Senator Joe Biden: He Can Ride, But He Can't Hide

Billboards, addressed to Senator Joe Biden, have been strategically placed in Delaware to call on him to make the pending re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) gender neutral so that all victims of domestic violence can benefit from the funding. Over 835,000 men report being victims of intimate partner violence annually, this number reflects 36% of all victims, yet the billions of dollars in VAWA funding can only be used for services to help women and children. To view the billboards or make a contribution via paypal to the billboard project go to - vawa4all.org

(PRWEB) May 2, 2005 -- Billboards have been strategically placed in three locations in Delaware by the Safe Homes for Children and Families Coalition. The billboards are addressed to Sen. Joe Biden and call on him to make the pending re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) gender-neutral. Did you know that the DOJ reports that 36% or 835,000 of the 2.3 million victims of domestic violence are men? And did you know that while approximately 1700 women are killed each year by their male partners, 900 men are killed by their female partners?

After ten years of the Senator ignoring our pleas to make VAWA gender-neutral we are compelled to take the message public. To be sure Sen. Biden doesn't miss our message we have strategically placed the boards so he won't be able to avoid them every day on his way to Washington, D.C. Senator Biden touts the fact that he does not have a home in Washington and commutes by Amtrak to and from Washington everyday.

So we have located them to follow him all the way to the train platform. The first one, a 14 ft. x 48 ft. standard highway billboard, is on I-95. Then when he drops down off of I-95 onto the main and only street by which he can get to the Amtrak train station, as he approaches the entrance to the station where he has to turn right to go under the train track trussel and into the station area, he is confronted by another large 5 ft. x 11 ft. board. Then when he goes upstairs to the train platform, as he awaits his train, another 3 ft. x 6 ft. board is glaring out his name again and demanding he give equal protection to all.

Senator Joe Biden promotes himself as a straight talking, consistently fair political leader. He also promotes himself as an ardent supporter of equal rights and the 14th Amendment. And he has a record of supporting equality for minorities and women. Apparently, however, his fealty to the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause is selective - shall we say political? How else do we explain why Senator Biden's support of the principles that underlie the 14th Amendment and equality for women - the dignity and humanity of every person - do not, for him, apply to the 835,000 men and their children who are victims of abuse and violence. To view the billboards or make a contribution via paypal to the billboard project go to - vawa4all.org
