Parrot Cellular and RecycleforCalifornia.com Join Together to Collect Old Cell Phones
The phones can be turned in at any Parrot Cellular location
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2005 -- Parrot Cellular, an exclusive agent for Cingular Wireless which operates more than 85 retail outlets throughout Northern California, announced today it will partner with RecycleForCalifornia.com to collect used cellular phones at all its locations throughout the state.
RecycleforCalifornia.com, an industry-funded statewide cell phone recycling initiative, will pay a cash amount for each collected cell phone that has a re-marketable value, and 50% of the funds raised will go to support local charities. Phones that are not re-marketable may be donated to shelters, senior groups or other emergency services, or will be recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

Conrad Melancon, program director for RecycleForCalifornia.com, said there are more that 500 million used cellular phones in the U.S., with 100 million more being replaced each year.
This cellular phone collection program will help raise money for use in the community and help keep hazardous materials out of our landfills," Melancon said. Many of these cellular phones will be sent oversees to countries where a cellular phone may be the only means of long distance communications."
All cell phones will be accepted under the program. Phones should be deactivated and personal information should be removed prior to being turned in at any Parrot Cellular location.
