A new Florida website, www.flflorida.com teaches vacationers and others about Florida's attractions, history, hurricanes and other facts.

(PRWEB) May 7, 2005 -- Tourists interested in Florida as a vacation destination and students interested in doing research on hurricanes can now find information about Florida's history, climate and famous attractions on www.flflorida.com.

The new website helps people learn about Florida's famous attractions such as Disney World, the sprawling beaches, or the wild night life of Miami as well as the Sunshine State's history, its government, laws and other demographics.

Despite frequent hurricanes, Florida's economy is heavily based on tourism. Warm weather year-round and hundreds of miles of beach make for a thriving vacation spot for global travelers.

Walt Disney World, near Orlando, drives much the economy of that area, but there are numerous othe amusement parks and studio theme parks in the area as well.

Information on the new Website explains that hurricanes pose the biggest threat during the summer and fall. Florida saw major destruction in 2004 when it was hit by four hurricanes: Hurricanes Charley (August 13), Frances (September 4-5), Ivan (September 16), and Jeanne (September 25-26).

These disasters added up to a cost of $42 billion dollars to the state, the Website says.

  • It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama and it is near the countries of the Caribbean, particularly the Bahamas, Cuba, and Haiti.

  • The immense amount of sales tax revenue allows the state to be one of the nine states which does not impose personal income tax. The state sales tax rate is 6 percent. Local governments may levy a local option sales on top of that, so sales taxes vary by county between 6 and 7.5 percent.
