Today's Graduates Don't Have A Clue, Says Leadership Expert

"Most leaders are getting the wrong results or the right results in the wrong way, simply because they haven't a clue about what leadership really entails," says Filson who as founder and president of The Filson Leadership Group, Inc. He has worked with thousands of leaders worldwide for the past 21 years. "I see leaders getting the wrong results at the end of the careers, during the middle of their careers and, like the graduates, at the start of their careers."

Williamstown, MA (PRWEB) May 12, 2005 -- Leadership expert, Brent Filson claims that if today's graduates are like many of the thousands of leaders he has encountered over the two decades, they are headed for tragic careers.

Filson says one of the main reasons they are getting the wrong results is they are repeatedly making a single mistake. "They're giving presentations and speeches, not Leadership Talks!"

The Leadership Talk is described in Brent's recently published book, The Leadership Talk: The Greatest Leadership Tool. (Williamstown Publishing, 2004.)

In defining the Leadership Talk, Filson says there is a hierarchy of verbal persuasion when it comes to business Leadership. "The lowest levels are speeches and presentations, which primarily communicate information. The highest and most effective level is the Leadership Talk. The Leadership Talk does something much more than simply get information across, it has the leader establish a deep, human, emotional connection with the audience. Its in the realm of that connection that business leaders get the best results. Graduates can do a great service to themselves and their careers by learning how to give Leadership Talks."

The book is the product of his two-decades consulting with leaders of all ranks and functions in top companies worldwide. It offers:

A clear, compelling differentiation between presentations/speeches and Leadership Talks It gets leaders saying the right things at the right time in the right ways.

Specific ways to weave Leadership Talks into the leader's day to day activities. Leaders will dramatically increase their effectiveness.

A simple, practical process to transfer the leader's motivation to the people so they feel as strongly as the leader about the challenges they face. No more confusion about how to precisely inspire individuals and groups they lead.

One basic change in a leader's thinking that can transform his/her career. When leaders think in this new way, they get people taking action that gets big results.

Three indispensable questions a leader can ask when facing every leadership challenge. Just asking and answering these three questions many daily is better for the advancement of one's career than a Harvard MBA.

The author of 23 books, Brent Filson's latest books are "The Leadership Talk: The Greatest Leadership Tool and "101 Ways to Give Great Leadership Talks."

Filson first learned about leadership as a Marine Corps rifle platoon commander. For the past 20 years, as a civilian, he has helped thousands of leaders in major companies worldwide achieve sizable and continual increases in results. He has published many books and hundreds of articles on leadership, developed motivational leadership strategies and created and instituted leadership educational and training programs. He has lectured at Columbia University, M.I.T., Wake Forest, Villanova and many other universities. Recently, he has conducted more than 125 radio interviews dealing with the Leadership Talk.

"Brent Filson is one of the most talented communicators in the world. If you want to learn to motivate two, two hundred, or two thousand people, his lectures and seminars are a must!"- Joseph Mancuso, CEO, Center for Entrepreneurial Management.
