Serco Usability Services Publishes Guidelines for the Design of GPS In-car Navigation Systems

Serco Usability Services have carried out independent research to investigate usability issues in the design of in-car GPS navigation systems.

(PRWEB) May 14, 2005 -- Serco Usability Services have carried out independent research to investigate usability issues in the design of in-car GPS navigation systems. The result is a set of guidelines published at http://www.usability.serco.com/research/research.htm#gps

Director Owen Daly-Jones says, in-car GPS systems present both benefits and risks to drivers and pedestrians. It is particularly important that user interaction with a GPS interface is as simple as possible. These guidelines, the latest in our innovative series, will help designers of these systems ensure the safety of their customers and other road users".

These guidelines were derived from a series of expert reviews using one of the leading devices on the market. The research involved car journeys throughout the country and also in Central London.
