California Family Summer Camp at Camp La Jolla

[Family Camp Week http://www.camplajolla.com/leftnav/family_camp.html at Camp La Jolla is a family summer camp designed for the entire family to support their child, a participant in the 4-week to 9-week weight loss fitness program. This California family camp runs August 14-19, 2005. Owner, Nancy Lenhart, started this program because she realized how important the support of the whole family is for the child to achieve success.

(PRWEB) May 27, 2005 -- If you see a mother, father, sister and brother walking on a La Jolla beach all sporting pedometers, you may be observing participants of [Family Camp Week http://www.camplajolla.com/leftnav/family_camp.html at Camp La Jolla. The family summer camp is a support program offered by this 35-year-old weight loss fitness camp.

The only one of its kind at any weight loss fitness camp, Family Camp Week will be held in La Jolla, California on August 14-19, 2005 to coincide with the last week of regular camp, at which time a child enrolled at Camp La Jolla will participate with their family. At Camp La Jolla, everyone will live, learn, eat and play together. Days are planned to encompass a variety of opportunities —all designed to give family members an experience that will help maintain good health and fitness for all.

I listened to the hopes and dreams of parents and then created family camp," says Nancy Lenhart, owner of Camp La Jolla. The focus is not just weight loss," Lenhart says. Its a family health and fitness vacation and lots of fun." Family summer camp participants experience a healthy lifestyle by exercising, eating healthy, playing and communicating—as a family.

Each day, [Camp La Jollas Family Camp http://www.camplajolla.com/leftnav/family_camp.html includes a morning beach walk, a nutritious breakfast followed by a group discussion and another fitness activity before lunch. After lunch there are more activities emphasizing fun and movement and an afternoon discussion. After dinner the family activity might be a shopping trip, bus tour or other off campus event such as a Padres Baseball Game or San Diego Night Zoo. The day wraps up with an evening review that promotes family values and healthy communication. The highlight of the family summer camp is the banquet and awards night on Thursday.

At meals, portion control is emphasized and each family member takes turns serving the others.

Fitness activities are non-competitive and offer beginner through intermediate levels, including rock climbing, softball, kayaking, surfing, yoga and core strength training, etc.

The discussions at the family weight loss fitness camp are designed to uncover family issues and offer suggestions for behavior modification and improved communication. Ideas for better nutrition and meal planning are recommended to address common issues such as no time for meals, eating on the run, fast foods, and junk food in the house among others. When family members eat at least one meal a day together, they spend quality time and know each other better as they talk about whats going on in their lives.

We look at what messages the parents are giving and what messages the kids hear," says Lenhart. Every family member has equal time to talk about family issues, and then we can propose positive solutions. Pre-planning and understanding good nutrition offers everyone a win-win." Lenhart adds, We stress the buddy system: two family members can split meals at restaurants or have one person accountable for what the other eats and we suggest they even serve each other. This unites the family and we suggest doing it during holidays as well."

This [California family summer camp http://www.camplajolla.com/index.html gives people tools to take into the world. The two-year follow up program to the weight loss fitness camp assists them in making that transition and answers questions that will arise. It includes phone calls, videos, newsletters and contact with other camp participants. We are training the children of today to be better parents of tomorrow," Nancy Lenhart says. We want the families to feel more united in going forward and working together in fun, family fitness activities and good eating habits."
