German Artist Toni Geiling is Giving up on Weed Files at tonigeiling.com
The German composer, violinist and songwriter Toni Geiling is finally saying good bye to the weed file scheme.
(PRWEB) May 30, 2005 -- Toni Geiling had his album "sun, apple tree moon bumble bee" released as weed files for three quarter of a year now. His weed files were downloaded in high numbers but the actual sales were very low. This could have two reasons. A) the audience did not like what they heard or B) the weed file scheme does not work for artists or music buyers. The first case would be hard for an artist, wouldnt it? But Toni Geilings audiences loved songs like Dracula and Laid down a lot – sales of, reviews and reports on the first 2001 released CD were very positive. Might it be that the weed file scheme does not work after all? Might it be that it cant turn internet users primarily seeking free stuff into buyers? Toni Geiling is asking other artists to come forward and speak about the real success they have had or not had with weed files.
After the big hype last year many artists jumped onto the weed train. The digital music world seemed to be divided. On one side weed sellers voiced there opinion in a type of gold fever - on the other side you found fierce enemies that totally opposed the weed scheme. Sometimes there is no better way than trying it out thought Toni Geiling when he too jumped onto what looked like a fair and profitable way of selling music online.
Today he has to announce that with the next bigger changes in the strategy and structure of www.tonigeiling.com and www.tonigeiling.de due to July all his weed files will be taken off his homepages. Audience and fans will find good old free streaming audio and a fan / member area where they can download MP3s and sheet music. Albums will be sold through an own shopping system cutting out the middle man.
You may ask how artists like Toni Geiling survive in Germany. The answer is very simple. They play gigs, sell CDs, teach, compose and record – pretty much the same like in the last decade. Digital distribution is something on top of that, maybe a better form of gambling but Toni Geiling doubts at that point very much, that weed files are a valid ticket with real chances to win that lottery.
