(PRWEB) June 12, 2005 -- Bob & Sallie Connelly will auction Antiques, Military Items and a Horseless Carriage at the Showplace in Binghamton, NY on Saturday, June 18, 2005, starting at 10:00 a.m., with a preview at 9:00 a.m. Most of the items are from the New Milford, PA Estate of two families, the Donleys and the Doyles, who were 1799 settlers of Susquehanna County. Included is the surveying instrument made by John Hoff of Lancaster and used by John Doyle to survey the County in the early 1800's. The featured items are a 1908 Sears Model G car and a Civil War era sword presented to Captain F. Heppenheimer and made by Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia.
The Sears motor buggy is a classic high wheeler with tiller-steering, elliptical spring suspension, friction pad brakes, and an air-cooled 12 hp, 2-cylinder engine that propelled this horseless carriage at speeds up to 25 mph. Stored in a dry garage, this one-owner antique car was last driven around 1965, and has never been restored. It comes with the original manual (pages 4-30), and will be sold in "as found" condition.
The sword is engraved "Presented to Capt. F. Heppenheimer by Company F. Jefferson Grenadiers 5th Reg. N.Y.L.M. New York, Dec. 29th 1856". As a member of the now defunct Fifth Regiment of the Jefferson Guard headquartered in New York City, Heppenheimer took part in the May 24, 1861 occupation of Arlington Heights, VA. The blade is 31 inches long with patriotic and floral designs. The scabbard is engraved with an eagle, shields, flags and other patriotic motifs. It has not been cleaned and the overall condition is "as found" in an attic.
Also included in the auction are furniture, such as Empire Secretaries, a Victorian Medallian Back settee, and a railroad ticket cupboard, accessories, such as a Riley Whiting, Winchester cherry tall case clock, oil paintings signed Otto Schroder, and a circa 1890 wicker baby carriage, glassware and china, such as a Staffordshire Lusterware tea set, military items, such as a circa 1820 broad sword and a German dagger, and guns, including shotguns and pistols.
