Cascadia Con is pleased to announce our Focus on Comics with Spawns of Insomnia 2 and Comic Biography Theatre

Cascadia Con, has planned a special focus on Comics. For this years event we will have over 40 hours of paneling specifically devoted to art and also at least 12 of those are specifically focused on comics. That may not sound like much but that is in addition to two very special programs that add over 600 hours of cartooning taking place right there on site.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 21, 2005 -- Cascadia Con is pleased to announce our Focus on Comics Programming.

Cascadia Con, the North American Science Fiction convention which is being hosted by the Pacific Northwest this year has planned a special focus on Comics. For this years event we will not only have over 40 hours of paneling specifically devoted to art but also at least 12 of those are specifically focused on comics. That may not sound like much but that is in addition to two very special programs that add over 600 hours of cartooning taking place right there on site.

Everyone has at least one great story. A true event from their lives that is so strange, funny, tragic, or heartwarming that it begs to be told. Comic Biography Theatre is devoted to telling those tales as comic book stories.

Comic Biography Theatre artists will be working two at a time in four-hour shifts. Well have two shifts a day. So in any given day we should have no more than four artists. Because theyre only working four hours a day—these artists will be available the rest of the day to take part in panels.

TALES OF TOMORROW in 24 hours today
Isnt that a fantastic title? I think so, and you can thank John Lustig for the words. Its nice to have a writer around, eh? I get excited just reading that! Can you just see it? 24 artists creating 24 individual comics in 24 hours!

Spawns takes place each day for a full 24 hours. Artists will be working in groups of six—with only one group scheduled per day. So every day there will be a different group of artists. Because the artists are going to be working for a full 24 hours, theyre going to be exhausted and will probably need at least a full day to recover before taking part in any other convention activity.

Cascadia Con is the 8th North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC) in 30 years. A NASFiC is only held when the Worldcon for that year is outside of North America. In 2005 the Worldcon will be in Scotland and Seattle will host the NASFiC. Cascadia Con will be host to a variety of professional writers, artists, scientists, teachers, futurists and musicians as well as Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Anime aficionados. Cascadia Con is a 100% volunteer run organization and a fully qualified 501c3 company.

Georgia & Scott Ball—excellent artists (Georgias also a writer) whove done lots of animation (Cartoon Network) and currently do a very nice web comic strip (www.ScooterAndFerret.com) which is often about the animation industry. Theyre signed up to do both Spawns and CBT.

Anton Bogaty—Is an exceptionally talented illustrator, animator, and small press comic book creator. Really beautiful stuff. Hell be taking part in CBT, but not Spawns.

Kevin Boze—Has a very simple, raw style, and hes one of the best storytellers Ive come across in comics. He also does a web strip about gaming at: http://www.shadowraven.org/ravenframe.php Hes scheduled to take part in both Spawns and CBT.

Kevin Brockschmidt—Has worked for Nintendo, Wizards of the Coast ,Starlog ,Readers Digest and King Features Syndicate . His specialty is humorous illustration. http://www.kevscartoons.com/ Hes scheduled to take part in both Spawns and CBT.

Tom Christopher—Tom is tentatively scheduled to take part in Spawns—time permitting. Hes been working as an inker (an artist who inks another artists pencil drawings) in the comic book business for decades. Hes tentatively scheduled to take part in Spawns, but not CBT.

Phil Foglio—Phil isnt taking part in either Spawns or CBT this time, but he has a booth at Cascadia Con and is available for panels. Besides his work in science fiction, Phil is a major comic book creator. (Im assuming I dont really need to detail his credits here.) Also on hand will be his wife Kaja who collaborates with Phil on their SF/fantasy comic GIRL GENIUS. http://www.studiofoglio.com/

Allen Freeman—has done quite a bit of inking and coloring in the comic book business. Hes also the publisher of a series of SlamBang comic book anthologies and is starting up a small company to publish a variety of comic books and graphic novels. Hes taking part in Spawns, but not CBT.

Roberta Gregory—Roberta is one of the best-known and talented women in the comic book business. Her NAUGHTY BITS comic book made TIME MAGAZINEs list of top 10 comics. The series was also adapted into an animated TV series on the Oxygen Network. She was also the first woman to self-publish her own comic. http://www.robertagregory.com/ Roberts doing CBT, but not Spawns.

Rick Hoberg—Is one of the most talented and diverse artists in comic books and animation. Over the decades, hes worked on dozens of superhero and science fiction comics and cartoons. Hes worked for Marvel, DC Comics, Disney and George Lucas. Hell be doing CBT, but not Spawns. Hell only be available for one day (exact day to be decided)—from about 11 a.m. on. Since his CBT shift will start in the afternoon., hell only be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day to take part in panels.

Larry Lewis—Not a big name, but hes a fine artist who has done lots of mini-comics and is considered the undisputed NW champ at that art form. http://www.geocities.com/larrylewiscomics/Larry has taken part in many local science fiction conventions. Larry will be participating in both Spawns and CBT.

Dan McConnell—he used to draw for Marvel years ago. His claim to fame: he drew the worlds smallest Spider-Man comic book. Dan will probably only be taking part in Spawns.

Liriel McMahon—Liriel writes and draws BadBlood--a beautiful and very original web strip about vampires in Seattle. Www.badbloodcomic.com Shes also very active in the web comics community. Shell be taking part in both Spawns and CBT.

Mark Monlux—Mark is a successful commercial artist who also does a web strip called THE COMIC CRITIC. http://198.173.235.195/tcc_recent.html Mark will be doing Spawns (from Friday morning until Saturday morning) and probably not taking part in CBT.

James Dean Smith—Jim is the creator of BORIS THE BEAR, a successful independent comic book (about a comic book collecting, robot bear with a tendency to express his view with extreme violence) from the 1980s and ‘90s. Jims not such a big name these days, but boy can this guy draw. Hell be doing CBT, but not Spawns.

Jeff Willis—Is a major talent (really!), but isnt that well known in the comics or science fiction communities. Hes done a lot of work on licensed characters (such as RUGRATS and LOONEY TUNES) for DVD games http://www.artschools.com/interviews/jeff-willis/
