The Sacred Art Exhibition at BoxHeart Gallery celebrates its 9th Year and hosts Work of German Artist Petra Voegtle in July 2005
This year's Sacred Art Exhibition at BoxHeart Gallery in Pittsburgh will host one of the Silk Painted Scrolls of German artist Petra Voegtle (Vyala). Voegtle's work has been displayed at numerous venues in the United States and Europe and incorporates in general not only paintings on silk, but also silk fiber sculptures, drawings on paper/silk scrolls and wood carving.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 26, 2005 -- Again some work of Petra Voegtle will be shown at the BoxHeart Gallery, this time in their 9th Sacred Art Exhibition. Nicole Capozzi, co-owner and director of the gallery, curates this exhibition which will hang from June 28 to July 12, 2005. The Sacred Art Exhibition is an Annual Event in the Bloomfield Community. Artists were asked to submit pieces that explore their interpretation of The Sacred.
Voegtle's work shown at the gallery is a Silk Painted Scroll with the title "The 7th Sign" (http://www.angelfire.com/art2/vyala_arts/scrolls/sign.html ),
an interpretation of the film's theme about the legend of "The Guf" or the "Hall of Souls", where souls reside in a heavenly and sacred place until they are born to flesh. No matter how the film ends the scroll interprets an apocalyptical vision: "The Guf" is empty, there is no bird song and human beings are born without a soul after the loss of the last innocence. The earth itself is burning after the last war and what is left are hollow shadows. There is no sacred place any more.
Voegtle who signs her work always with "Vyala" which is an old sanskrit word, feels deeply influenced by Asian cultures due to many travels to southeast Asian countries. A vyala is a mythical catlike animal that can have different faces. The vyala motif is ubiquitous in medieval Indian temples. Symbolically it represents the struggle to subdue the passions. The vyala's body is always a rampant lion sometimes engaged in some combat with a warrior or female trying to tame it. A symbol for the struggle of life and a symbol for the conflict within.
