CellForCash.com Puts out Emergency 911 Call

The website, which pays cash for used cell phones, wants more phones to give to law enforcement agencies.

OCALA, Fla. (PRWEB) July 5, 2005 -- CellForCash.com, which pays cash for used cell phones and then re-markets them around the world, put out a call today for more cell phones that it can donate for free to law enforcement agencies and affiliated groups through its successful 911 Cell Phone Bank program.

Individuals can go to the www.CellForCash.com website, print out a mailing label and then send in their phone.

CellForCash.com now donates around 1,000 cell phones each month under the program, but demand is on the rise. Besides the phones, the program also provides participating agencies with much-needed cash. The agencies also provide the emergency phones to shelters, victims of abuse, and senior citizens in need.

Since we started this program a little more than a year ago, law enforcement agencies have enthusiastically partnered with us to get emergency cell phones into the hands of people who need them," said James Mosieur, chief executive officer of RMS Communications Group Inc., CellForCash.coms parent company. We need the public to send us more phones so we can keep up with the increasing demand."

CellForCash.com established its 911 Cell Phone Bank in May 2004 as a means for supplying law enforcement agencies and other organizations with emergency cell phones and cash. Since then, more than 120 law enforcement agencies and other groups have signed up with the program, and CellForCash.com has provided the agencies with thousands of cell phones.

Kathy Connolly, a victims advocate with the Leon County Sheriffs Office in Florida, said it took her awhile to believe that the 911 Cell Phone Bank really worked as claimed.

We in law enforcement are pretty skeptical folks, so it took a while to convince us that they would keep us in free cell phones, actually send us cash for the phones we collect from members of the community, and that there was no catch," Connolly said. Its like going to the grocery store and being paid to take home your groceries."

Connolly said her community received scores of free cell phones and several hundred dollars in cash under the program. As a result, she nominated CellForCash.com for her departments Community Service Award earlier this year.

Currently, more than 1,000 are being shipped to the agencies every month by CellForCash.com. In addition, CellForCash.com has also provided the agencies with $225,000 in cash.

Here is how the program works:

Participating agencies collect cell phones from their communities and send them postage-paid to CellForCash.com. CellForCash.com then determines the "best use" for each phone; phones with high market value are converted to cash. For every phone converted to cash, CellForCash.com donates one working 911 cell phone from its inventory.

Cell phones best suited for emergency use are constantly added to the 911 emergency phone inventory. Phones that are unusable or damaged are responsibly recycled.

Participating agencies receive the cash value of re-marketable cell phones AND have access to the inventory pool of 911 cell phones.

New law enforcement agencies are signing up for the 911 Cell Phone Bank program every week because they recognize the value that it offers to their communities and to the citizens who are in need of emergency phones," Mosieur said. Wed be delighted to have more agencies come on board."
