James Devore Waltersdorf Awarded Rank of Eagle Scout

James Devore Waltersdorf , a member of Troop 10, has been awarded the rank of Eagle - the highest achievement within the Boy Scouts of America - at an Eagle Court of Honor held in Hagerstown June 20, 2005.

Hagerstown, MD (PRWEB) July 4, 2005 -- James Devore Waltersdorf , a member of Troop 10, has been awarded the rank of Eagle - the highest achievement within the Boy Scouts of America - at an Eagle Court of Honor held in Hagerstown June 20, 2005.

To become an Eagle, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of Leadership and outdoor skills as well as providing a beneficial service to an organization, such as a non- profit institution. Less than 2% of Boy Scouts actually achieve this prestigious ranking.

For his project, James chose to design and build a sidewalk connecting a toy shed to the outdoorplay area at The Hagerstown Day Nursery. I wanted to do something meaningful and useful," Eagle Waltersdorf said.

About James Waltersdorf:
James was born May 2, 1987 in Baltimore County and lives in Hagerstown, Maryland. His parents, Gayle and Jay, reside in Hagerstown. He has numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. His grandparents live in Hagerstown.

He attended Paramount and Eastern Elementary Schools, and St. James School. He presently is a student at Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, New York. He plans to further his studies in Engineering and Business.

When not busy with school or scouts, James played soccer in the Hagerstown Area Youth Soccer League and baseball at Federal Little League. He currently plays Varsity Football and Lacrosse, and is also a member of the Outdoor Club at school. He has been an assistant counselor with the Police Athletic Leagues summer program and done volunteer work at the Hager House. He also enjoys snowboarding and music.

James began his association with scouting as a Bobcat Cub Scout in 1994, Wolf in 1995, Bear in 1996, Webelos in 1997 and the Order of Light in 1998, becoming a Boy Scout in 1999 and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Guneukitchik Lodge 317, having his Ordeal in 2002. He has held a number of positions in Troop 10, including Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He has attended various Camporees and spent much time at Camp Sinoquipe and Broad Creek Scout camps He considers his experience at Philmont Scout Ranch in 2003 to be the highlight of his life.

For his Eagle Project, James designed and led the construction of a concrete sidewalk for the Hagerstown Day Nursery. This pavement provides the children and staff paved access to the outside toy storage from the play area. James is grateful to those who assisted and contributed to this worthy endeavor.
