Record Lake Trout Catch This Season Per Maine Lodge Owner

A record number of lake trout were caught on East Grand Lake in Maine during the spring fishing season. Many of the 7 to 12 pound fish were taken on the surface.

(PRWEB) July 9, 2005 -- Fishing has never been better for Maine's largest native fish the lake trout. Referred to as "togue" by natives of Maine, these giant beauties are normally only found in the deepest parts of Maine's lakes in cold, icy water. However, for reasons unknown as yet, the big fish were caught on Maine's East Grand Lake in uncommonly large numbers this spring.

Rideout's Lodge manager, Bob Lorigan explained as follows "the fish were everywhere, even in the shallows. Seven to 12 pounders were caught by many guest at the Lodge, even surface fly fishermen were landing the huge fish on light tackle. We've got to believe they were chasing bait fish near the surface that are normally found in much deeper water".

Known for their spirited fighing ability and excellent flavor the fish have always been much prized by Maine sportsmen. There were also several very large fish that were taken as trophies for mounting.

It is not know whether the togue fishing bonanza will continue, per Mr. Lorigan "we'll have to wait until fall when the water cools down to see what will happen."
