Twenty-one athletes from Louisville, KY joined 1700 competitors at the AAU National Taekwondo Championships in Greensboro, NC on July 5th. Eleven athletes won National Championships, two athletes won Silver Medals, and four athletes won Bronze Medals in Point Fighting.

(PRWEB) July 9, 2005 -- The athletes are part of the Jaguar Team, the competition team at Robinsons Black Belt Academy, a local martial arts school located at the All About Kids Sports Center in Louisville, KY. Nineteen youth competitors and two adult competitors represented the Jaguar Team at the tournament. The team is coached by Adam Robinson and Mike Dorsey.

Rachel Gould, a thirteen year old Second Degree Black Belt, successfully defended her 2004 AAU National Championship. Miss Gould showed her toughness and competitive spirit during a hard fought Gold Medal match. Miss Gould is the only back to back AAU National Point Fighting Champion in the state of Kentucky!

Jonathan Cordero, a nine year old Red Belt, also won a National Championship for his age group. During his second match, Mr. Cordero sustained an injury from an illegal attack from his competitor. Jonathan was able to compete in spite of the injury and fought his was to a National Championship! Mr. Cordero also won a USSSA National Championship on June 24th 2005 in Orlando, FL. He is the only Taekwondo athlete in Kentucky to win AAU and USSSA Taekwondo National Championships in the same year!

Our team has dominated state and regional tournaments all year, but I was not expecting this level of success at a National Event. I was hoping to win 5 to 7 National Championships. Eleven championships is unbelievable. Our team won 17 medals against some of the toughest competition in the country," states Adam Robinson, the team head coach.

For two years the Jaguar Team has been the dominant team in point fighting in AAU and USSSA Taekwondo competitions in our region. The team trains specifically for the rigors of Taekwondo competition. The athletes work on the physical and mental skills that will help them become champions in life and on the competition floor.

This is truly an amazing group of athletes who done what it takes to win. These kids will forever remember what it takes to achieve success – and that is a skill that will benefit them for a lifetime," states Robinson.
