ACFA Raises More than $20,000 for Orlando-Based Charity

At its recent convention in San Francisco, the American Cash Flow Association raised more than $20,000 in donations for the Russell Home for Atypical Children in Orlando, Florida.

ORLANDO (PRWEB) July 14, 2005 -— At its recent convention in San Francisco, the American Cash Flow Association (http://association.americancashflow.com) raised more than $20,000 in donations for the Russell Home for Atypical Children in Orlando, Florida.

Recognized nationally for its compassionate treatment of disabled children and adults, the Russell Home was established 55 years ago by Vantrease Grandma" Russell to care for disabled children who would otherwise be institutionalized. The first child to be housed at the home, now 60, is still there.

The Russell Home is now run by Janet Russell Nixon, Mrs. Russells daughter. Mrs. Russell died in 2003. Over the years, Mrs. Russell was given numerous awards, and they are displayed throughout the home.

The Home enables its 25 disabled residents to experience life in a typical home atmosphere rather than the sterile atmosphere associated with institutions. The largest room, called the nursery," houses the six most severely disabled residents. Other residents stay in typical bedrooms with one, two, or three beds and have several family" rooms where they gather during the day for activities.

Because it is faith-based, the Russell Home receives no governmental funding, although it has been honored by President George W. Bush. It relies totally on private donations and on its benefactors spreading word about its work. It does not solicit funds.

Fred Rewey, president of the ACFA (http://association.americancashflow.com), became aware of the home through his work with the Orlando Harley Group, which does numerous projects and fundraisers for the home. He took that message to San Francisco for ACFAs annual convention and named the Russell Home as the recipient of the proceeds for the organizations annual raffle, which raises funds for charities every year.

Over a two-day period, the raffle raised $10,090, and Rewey matched that with ACFA funds, making a total contribution of $20,180. It is the Associations intention to adopt the Home as its official charity, Rewey said.

I have been more than overwhelmed by the positive spirit of the Russell Home, its residents, and the dedication of the people running it. The staff has done incredible work with the Russell Home making each resident feel comfortable and part of a family. It is my distinct privilege to help in whatever small way I can and I would encourage others to do the same."
