Stan Carman Announces Print-on-Demand Availability of 'A Book of Five Swords and a Scroll'

This work provides details of five Japanese swords that were brought to the United States by returning service men at the conclusion of WWII. The scroll in the title is a journey into Japanese Medieval History. Also included is a short bio of a U.S. Marine defender of Wake Island, December 1941, and his internment in Japanese POW Camps.

Stan Carman wrote "A Book of Five Swords and a Scroll" to document three Japanese swords of a friend as well as two Japanese swords and a hanging scroll brought to the United States by his uncle after the war with Japan.

His research into the various aspects of the swords and scroll fired his interest and created a thirst for more information. Two of the swords turned out to be over 450 years old. The project grew and consumed approximately five years to complete.

Stan came to Lulu because he desired to be in control of all aspects of publishing his book. His first copy was sold in Japan.

The scroll mentioned in the title is of one of the lesser known heroes of Japanese medieval history, Kojima Takanori (d.1374), painted by the well known Japanese artist, Kobori Tomone before 1900.

Stan Carman joined the United States Marine Corps before his 18th birthday and served in Korea; Madras, India; the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), and other places around the globe. In 1964 he joined IBM as a Customer Engineer, after graduating from Los Angeles Trade Technical College. Stan retired from IBM in 1991 after 27 years of service, to pursue other interests, among which were A Book of Five Swords and a Scroll.
