SuperTrade.com: Knowledge Management for the Masses

SuperTrade.com is a new, free Web application that allows users to create lists of bookmarks, comment on those bookmarks, engage in on-line discussions of bookmarked Websites and more. Based on the principles of knowledge management, SuperTrade is much more than a bookmarks site, but less than a blog.

(PRWEB) August 1, 2005 -- SuperTrade, which claims to be the ultimate free knowledge exchange" is the latest on-line creation of Jeffrey Baumgartner, the eccentric founder of the jpb group. SuperTrade is a web application that allows users to create Lists" of bookmarks. Unlike other bookmark sites, however, SuperTrade includes a number of features normally found in knowledge management tools. Users can categorize bookmarks, manage categories, attach detailed commentary about bookmarks and even engage in on-line discussions about bookmarks – each bookmark has its own dedicated discussion forum. Bookmarks can include any on-line document or file: web pages, text documents, images, digital music, digital video, PowerPoint presentations or indeed anything that can be found on the Web.

The original concept behind SuperTrade was to develop a knowledge management tool for professionals; one where they could save links to on-line documents, provide their own commentary and share those links with their peers. Today, this kind of knowledge sharing is most often accomplished by circulating e-mails to large groups of colleagues, associates and others. However, e-mails are often lost, sometimes not wanted and do not provide a single source of all links shared via e-mail. SuperTrade solves all these problems. Moreover, a subscription function allows anyone to subscribe to a list and receive e-mail notification of new content.

As SuperTrade was developed, it quickly became clear that the software could serve other groups as well. People who like to share funny, bizarre or other kinds of web sites with friends can readily use SuperTrade to share these web sites. Hobbyists can build up pages of links relevant to their hobbies. People who travel frequently or use multiple computers can build a central bookmarks site which they can access from any computer anywhere. They can even opt to keep their lists private. Users can even make lists of film or video clips.

SuperTrade, at www.supertrade.com, is free for all. However, users must fill in a simple registration form if they wish to set up their own lists, participate in discussion forums or subscribe to lists. Currently, SuperTrade is advertising supported, although jpb has plans to develop more sophisticated tools on a fee payment basis. Basic lists will always be free to set up and manage.
