Football Fans Create Holiday to Celebrate Return of Americas Game

Two Football Fans created a holiday over 10 years ago to celebrate the return of the National Football League. Now they have created a web site to share the holiday, Football Thanksgiving, with football fans everywhere. The website (www.footballthanksgiving.com) includes a menu, celebration ideas, recipes and merchandise.

Sterling, VA (PRWEB) August 4, 2005 -- With the start of training camp, many football fans are getting revved up for the upcoming season. Meanwhile Dallas Cowboy fans Laura and Donald Poindexter of Sterling, Virginia are preparing to celebrate a holiday all their own. They call it Football Thanksgiving.

Football Thanksgiving is a celebration of the return of the National Football League on the first Sunday of the regular season," said Laura Poindexter.

This year the celebration falls on Sunday, Sept. 11. The Poindexter's celebration includes a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey and all the fixings and now they have a logo, web site (www.footballthanksgiving.com) and merchandise. Football Thanksgiving has been a tradition in our family and circle of friends for over 10 years. We wanted to share our love of the game and our celebration with all football fans so we created the website to share our menu, recipes, and celebration ideas."

The Poindexters were celebrating some form of Football Thanksgiving since they started dating in 1993, but they mark the first official Football Thanksgiving as Sept. 6, 1998 – their wedding day.

We were married on a horse farm and had a handheld TV so we could catch the end of the Cowboys game. I had Donald's groom's cake decorated like the field in Texas Stadium," said Poindexter. These two avid Cowboys fans went to - where else - Dallas for their honeymoon to catch two games at Texas Stadium.

The Football Thanksgiving website also includes merchandise including t-shirts, aprons for the chef of the house, party invitations, and an online newsletter to keep fans up to date on celebration ideas.

Happy Football Thanksgiving
We couldn't think of a better way to depict Football Thanksgiving than with a hand turkey with a helmet holding a football.
