Wharton Executive Education Selected to Offer the Alternative Investments Certificate Program

Philadelphia, PA, (PRWEB) August 8, 2005 -- Wharton Executive Education today announced that the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) has selected the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to offer its Alternative Investments Certificate Program in October 2005 and three times in 2006. The decision was made after the enthusiastic response of 45 participants – including independent investment consultants and employees of major brokerage houses such as Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley – to the inaugural running of the program.
Wharton Executive Education was chosen from among several potential partner institutions to design and deliver the program for IMCA. Participation in the Alternative Investments Certificate Program provides 40 hours of IMCA Continuing Education credit toward maintenance of both a CIMA and CIMC license. Participants also receive a certificate from the Wharton School and the program counts toward a Wharton Certificate of Professional Development.
The executive education program covers both qualitative and quantitative factors in investment decisions to help participants hone their economic intuition." On the quantitative side, Wharton faculty examined investment options such as hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real estate. On the qualitative side, faculty also explored organizational issues such as manager selection, regulation, and ethics.
In addition to applying all sorts of new tools that helped them get behind the media reports and learn how to separate truth from fiction, participants learned to use their guts and not just their heads," said Eric Weiner, a director of the Wharton Executive Education Financial Service Practice.
The Alternative Investments Certificate Program consists of 12 weeks of online pre-work, ranging from basics such as hedge-fund strategies to more advanced issues such as risk-monitoring, and culminating in a week-long intensive at the Wharton School.
The last assignment, an integrative case study, allows participants to try out their new fusion of theory and practical real-life considerations. People came from a broad range of experiences and were differently prepared, but each one found something valuable," said Christopher Geczy, assistant professor of finance at Wharton and academic director of the program.
