KnowledgeStorm Launches Vertical Search Engine

KnowIT provides the most comprehensive set of destinations and information for technology search.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 9, 2005 -- KnowledgeStorm (www.knowledgestorm.com), the Internet's top-ranked technology solutions content and search site, today announced the launch of its specialized search engine, KnowIT (www.KnowIT.com) — a true vertical technology search engine. KnowIT provides business and technology professionals the most comprehensive set of destinations and information on the Web delivering the most relevant set of search results. KnowIT is one of the key sites in the KnowledgeStorm Network, which includes more than 150 sites that distributes content on technology solutions.

Vertical search engines are specialized search engines that mine online information from a segment of the marketplace. The information is presented to the searcher in a manner that is simple to navigate and easy to understand. KnowIT is focused on meeting the needs of the technology searcher by delivering the most relevant set of technology-related search results.

We wanted to create an easier way to narrow down the abundance of information available to technology searchers. KnowIT will dramatically change how users interact with search engines — it is the ultimate search platform for the technology community.
"KnowIT has powerful search functionality that allows users to conduct deeper and more useful searches on the Internet for technology content, products and services. Our goal was to put the technology researchers interests first," says Jeff Ramminger, executive vice president of products, technology and marketing at KnowledgeStorm. "We wanted to create an easier way to narrow down the abundance of information available to technology searchers. KnowIT will dramatically change how users interact with search engines — it is the ultimate search platform for the technology community."

KnowledgeStorm conducted extensive research of its online community during the development of KnowIT. More than 75 percent of the participants said they used the Internet mostly for research purposes to keep abreast of industry trends and standards, as well as the competitive landscape. "Users expressed frustration with having to wade through pages and pages of search results to find relevant content," says Ramminger. "They wanted to be able to confine their searches to domains only related to technology, and they wanted to have a say in what sites were included in their searches. We built what they asked us for."

KnowIT conducts a focused crawl of technology-related Web sites. Its proprietary algorithm evaluates each site included in the index to determine its relevancy, focusing solely on presenting users with pertinent, technology-related content expertly classified and indexed in one place. The KnowIT index consists of: commercial, educational, news, analyst/research, blogs, forums, industry associations, government and reviews/opinions sites.

The initial launch of KnowIT will be the first step of many that KnowledgeStorm is making to dramatically simplify and improve access to technology information on the Internet. "As KnowIT evolves, it will open up new opportunities for users as well as vendors to interact with KnowledgeStorm," says Ramminger. "We plan to continue the expansion of our services and the KnowledgeStorm Network to give users access to the most relevant and useful information about all facets of technology. The launch of KnowIT is just the first step of many as we strive to be a primary source of technology information on the Internet — a one-stop resource for business and IT professionals, making us a dominant force in technology content and search."
