Choice Organic Teas Fair Trade Certified Rooibos Now Available

Choice Organic Teas Rooibos now carries the Fair Trade Certified logo. Rooibos recently became the first herbal tea to become Fair Trade Certified in the United States. All of the Choice Organic Teas Rooibos offerings have been converted to Fair Trade and the premium paid goes to the South African tea workers to sustain their community programs.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Seattle (PRWEB) August 11, 2005 -– Choice Organic Teas is proud to announce that all of their Rooibos offerings are now certified organic and Fair Trade Certified. These new offerings are sold in Natural foods retailers, select mass-market stores and online at www.choiceorganicteas.com in loose leaf, 16-teabag and 20-teabag boxes. Additionally, they can now be enjoyed in college and university cafés and other food service venues specializing in Fair Trade Certified products.

Rooibos, also known as Red Bush Tea, grows only in the perfect growing conditions of the Cedarburg Mountain region of the Western Cape of South Africa. The shrub-like bush is covered with thin, needle-like leaves that produce a reddish brown, yet full-bodied brew with a sweet, earthy aroma. This caffeine-free brew is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and is known as South Africas ‘National tea. The locals are said to consume, on average, 5 cups daily.

Fair Trade certification lends support to tea estate workers in undeveloped countries to meet the specific needs of their communities. The workers who harvest the organic Rooibos that is purchased by Choice Organic Teas are choosing to use the Fair Trade funds to guarantee the sustainability of their existing community programs. Classes currently encompass HIV/AIDS education and first aid treatment, and life skills training for women.

We believe strongly in the integrity of the Fair Trade program and appreciate that it empowers people to make a substantial difference in their own lives," says company founder and president Blake Rankin.

Granum, Inc. introduced Choice Organic Teas in 1989 as a line of exclusively organic teas. Sixteen years later, they offer more than seventy varieties of Black, Green, Oolong, White teas, and herbal infusions available in tea bags and loose leaf. They strive to produce the highest quality, best tasting teas that appeal to a wide range of palettes and emphasize their commitment to sustainable agriculture. Choice Organic Teas became the first tea crafter in the US to Fair Trade certify all qualifying teas. Choice Organic Teas provides exceptional tasting teas with an environmental and social conscience. Visit www.choiceorganicteas.com for more information.
