Attention Cheeseheads: Bookmakers still think Green Bay Packers have a shot

Despite the gloom that has been portrayed in recent press stories, online bookmakers have not necessarily given up hope on Green Bay

Miami Beach, Fla., (PRWEB) August 19, 2005 -- Many pundits believe Green Bay is going to be real hard-pressed to finish above .500. Considering they play in a division with the likes of Minnesota (a lot of experts feel the Vikings are a potential Super Bowl hopeful) and what will likely be an above average Detroit Lions team, The Packers getting to .500 may indeed be a task.

Yet sportsbooks like www.betus.com list them with payout odds to win their respective division (+285) slightly better than Detroit (+300) and their regular season wins at www.nine.com at 8 games, with the OVER a -120 favorite.

Clearly this is a team full of uncertainties
"Clearly this is a team full of uncertainties," commented Thomas Jensen, Marketing and Media Coordinator for Gambling911.com. "And the current scenario points to a struggling season. We at Gambling911 are somewhat surprised by the favorable odds placed on this team and why their numbers are not closer to that of the Bears (+625)."

Nine.com also lists the Green Bay Packers with +250 payout odds, ahead of Detroit's +300 payout odds and way ahead of Chicago, which is posted as a +625 long shot.

Safety, defensive tackle, outside linebacker and cornerback are among the positions still up in the air because of injuries and other uncertainties. Offensively, Bubba Franks, the only legitimate tight end on the roster, is unsigned, and both guard positions are still up for grabs heading into the second preseason game Saturday night at Buffalo.

This year, not only are there as many as seven starting position battles still going on, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel estimated that 19 of the final 53 roster spots are undecided.

"If you are a Cheesehead you owe it to yourselves to bet the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC North Division," Jensen said. "The payout is still good verses Minnesota where you have to lay $125 to win $100. With Green Bay $2.50 is paid for every $1 wagered should they win their respective division."

Stranger things have happened of course and one thing Green Bay has going for it is that they consistently play well over the years, particularly at home.

Their late season schedule is quite favorable with sub-freezing temperatures anticipated during the month of December. Dome team, Detroit, and Seattle play in Green Bay during the final weeks, as does what should be a mediocre Bears team (more accustomed to the cold however).

There is more good news in that Green Bay should be able to handle the likes of Cleveland, Tampa and New Orleans at home as well.

"The bad news however is that half of Green Bay's games are against very solid teams," Jensen stated. "Minnesota twice, Philly, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Baltimore are all on the menu for the Cheeseheads."

Nevertheless, Gambling911.com firmly believes that true Cheeseheads will back their team by betting on them at their favorite online sportsbooks like www.nine.com or www.betus.com just to name a few, unless of course you don't believe in sports betting.

"We know they won't be betting on Minnesota!" G911's Jensen said.
