Toronto Traditional Art Follows Tannenbaum Treasures to Hamilton

Drawings and Paintings by faculty and students of Toronto's Academy of Realist Art are on sale and exhibit at Earls Court Gallery in Hamilton, Ontario, August 19 through September 30, 2005

(PRWEB) August 21, 2005 -- Traditional, representational fine art has been enjoying a mini-Renaissance in Hamilton since the reopening of the AGH this spring with the banner exhibit "Heaven and Earth Unveiled."

Among the 'classical' art enthusiasts who met and formed alliances at the opening were the Earls Court Gallery (http://www.earlscourtgallery.ca) and the directors of Toronto's only all-realism fine art school, Academy of Realist Art (ARA).

Now jointly exhibiting works testifying to the success of the Academy's curriculum, ARA and Earls Court offer the Realist Revival show and sale (http://www.academyofrealistart.com/revival.asp), on Tuesdays through Saturdays, from now until September 30th.

The Tannenbaum Collection featured in _Heaven and Earth Unveiled_ (http://www.artgalleryofhamilton.com/ex_current.php) includes 200 works by nineteenth-century artists such as Sargent, Carpeaux, and Gerome. Instructional techniques revived from the great Academies of that period are used daily at ARA -- including the Drawing Course designed by Charles Bargue and Jean-Leon Gerome himself.

Visit Earls Court Gallery at 105 George Street, Hamilton (in Hess Village), Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Academy of Realist Art (ARA) is a private fine art school in the classical tradition, modelled on the great 19th-century Academies. Located in Toronto, Canada (near Buffalo, NY), ARA offers a proven curriculum of step-by-step, self-paced fine art study in a group environment. Students can learn to draw and paint at ARA full- or part-time and during periodic workshops. After completing the rigorous four-level (approximately four-year) program -- which includes the famous Bargue/Gerome Design Course and the painstakingly reconstructed curriculum stemming from Renaissance roots -- students receive a diploma transferable toward a degree at accredited colleges and universities via portfolio evaluation and credit banking. Academy of Realist Art is one of the few fine art schools to be accredited and recommended by the Art Renewal Center for excellence in drawing and painting instruction in the classical realist style.

Senior artist-instructors Fernando Freitas and Juan Carlos Martinez (http://www.academyofrealistart.com/faculty.asp) are both prize-winning contemporary realists. Freitas' exceptional draftsmanship and teaching style are evident in the recently released DVD, Drawing the Figure. Martinez' artwork and method are currently featured by _International Artist_ magazine, in a six-part article, "The Academy Way."

Living Masters and other art experts enrich the ARA curriculum with special demonstrations and lectures every semester.
