Paula Barr Chelsea is Delighted to Introduce Maria Ruggiano in Her First Solo Exhibition
Familiar Tempo is a new solo exhibition by emerging artist Maria Ruggiano. She combines alternative printmaking with photography and other mediums.
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 23, 2005 -- Marias White Series is an ongoing investigation into the feelings of modern women in the aftermath of September 11th in a distressed New York City. In response to our cultures false impression of womens emotions being weakness, Maria transmits an eruption of integration of her conscious and unconscious thoughts. The series utilizes methods of transfer and imprinting of imagery through which she creates her own environment away from the one the media creates. This spiritual process allows for an emotional release and sense of closure for the artist as well as the observer.
Her focus is on the use of original photography and self-discovered techniques, rather than on computer manipulation and heavy printing presses. Each piece incorporates alternative printmaking methods (e.g. Xeroxing, stamping, imprinting and reworking surfaces with various mediums and paper image transfers.) Her admiration for printmaking and early photographic printing offers infinite variations for emotional states and room for spontaneity of how ones feelings can shift from one moment to the next.
The series is personal to each observer, allowing the use of their own experiences as influence and interpretation of the images, colors and textures. They allow for independent thoughts and emotions which is mission accomplished for any contemporary artist.
New York native Maria Ruggiano, an emerging self-cultivated artist, works in a raw style with mixed media on paper. Using a visual language, she creates an analogous relationship of whats customary with the unexplored. The works in the White Series occupy alternating areas of stasis, energy and movement, pivoting on incorporation and interpretation of personal experience and thought. The simplicity of its tones and transcendent use of space is what gives this series its unobtrusive sense of modest beauty.
