International Biometric Group to Host Teleconference on the Vulnerabilities of Biometric Technologies, Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at 1 p.m. EDT.

IBGs teleconference this month will address the vulnerability of biometric technologies.

(PRWEB) September 2, 2005 -- International Biometric Group (IBG) extends an invitation to participate in IBGs upcoming teleconference on the Vulnerabilities of Biometric Technologies on Sept. 8, 2005 at 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT; 1700 Coordinated Universal Time).

Biometrics have the potential to provide added security in a variety of applications. For example, biometrics have been deployed to protect personal computers, ATMs, credit card transactions, electronic transactions, airports, nuclear facilities, and international borders. While biometrics may improve security in a plethora of environments and for a variety of purposes, biometric systems, like any other security system, have vulnerabilities. As the 2005 Las Vegas Defcon conference illustrates, the increasingly high profile use of biometrics for security purposes has provoked new interest in researching and exploring methods of spoofing biometric systems.

IBG Consultant Victor Lee will discuss issues pertaining to recognizing and addressing biometric technology security weaknesses and countermeasures. Mr. Lee will address the following topics:

-    Main points of vulnerability of biometric technologies including spoofing, back end threats and overloading
-    Past research conducted on methods of compromising biometric technologies including the latest results of international penetration testing initiatives
-    Best practices and methods to protect and optimize the security function of biometric technologies including a discussion of liveness detection

There is no fee to participate in IBGs teleconference series.
