Historic Power Plant Opens to Public One Last Time

The eight diesel generators at the utility's Roy E. Hansel Generating Station will fall silent at midnight on Sept. 30, drawing to a close a significant piece of Osceola County, Fla. history.

Kissimmee, Fla. (PRWEB) September 3, 2005 -- The gates to Kissimmee Utility Authority's historic downtown power plant will swing open one last time this month for individuals wishing to take a final tour of the facility that has served generations of Kissimmee residents.

The eight diesel generators at the utility's Roy E. Hansel Generating Station will fall silent at midnight on Sept. 30, drawing to a close a significant chapter in Osceola County history.

The KUA board of directors authorized the decommissioning of the units because they are no longer economical to operate.

The vacated building and adjacent property is scheduled to be returned to the city of Kissimmee for future development.

Free public tours of the power plant will be conducted at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in September (Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27). The plant is located at 102 E. Lakeshore Blvd., adjacent to Kissimmee's Lakefront Park.

For questions about the tours, please contact KUA's corporate communications division at (407) 933-9836 or email pr@kua.com.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
