Contemporary Dinnerware from the Casual to the Fine: Finnish Porcelain Maker iittala Re-releases Teema Line with New Colors

Today, Finnish porcelain maker, iittala (also known as Arabia), has re-released their Teema line with new colors for your choosing. Besides the classic blue and white, iittala has added brown and olive green as well. There are also select pieces available in yellow and turquoise. The Teema line of dinnerware has forever changed the way people look at their serving sets by redefining function and beauty.

(PRWEB) September 12, 2005 -- In 1945, Finnish designer Kaj Franck set out to design a mix-and-match dinnerware set for everyday use which came to be known as Teema (http://www.finnstyle.com/teema.html).

Franck's idea was to not only make objects that could be used interchangeably with other colors, but to also make them versatile enough to ensure their functions be almost limitless. He deeply believed that while these objects' shapes were simple and functional, they still held a true beauty in this simplicity. Using only basic shapes consisting of rectangles, circles, and squares, Franck's creation would later stir him to make the comment, Blow up your tableware.” Teema was also one of the first designer sets that could be bought in pieces as older sets were phased out.

Teema is the Finnish word for theme.” Given your ability to mix and match this dinnerware, it should come as no surprise. Today, Finnish porcelain maker, iittala (also known as Arabia), has re-released their Teema line with new colors for your choosing. Besides the classic blue and white, iittala has added brown and olive green as well. There are also select pieces available in yellow and turquoise. To add to their versatility, these pieces can also be used in the oven, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher.

Franck's contributions to the design world are still being felt today. Not only did he bring a newfound versatility to dinnerware, but he inspired a new generation of young designers to carry on in his tradition. This can be seen in the Origo (http://www.finnstyle.com/origo.html) line designed by Alfredo Häberli. Origo is the perfect partner to Teema for those who wish to add a bit of spice to their dinner service.

Teema would later win Franck several design awards, including the Compasso d'Oro, the Prince Eugen Medal, and the Lunning prize. So whatever your style may be, achieve it with a combination of soothing Teema and spicy Origo dinnerware designs.
