ASL Announces Partnership with MindWare; Combines Physiological Analysis with Eye Tracking Technologies

Applied Science Laboratories (ASL) and MindWare Technologies, Ltd., announce a partnership agreement whereby the two companies will work to combine ASL's mobile eye tracking technology with MindWare's physiologic data acquisition and analysis systems.

Bedford, MA (PRWEB) September 12, 2005 -- Applied Science Laboratories (ASL) and MindWare Technologies, Ltd., announce a partnership agreement whereby the two companies will work to combine ASL's mobile eye tracking technology with MindWare's physiologic data acquisition and analysis systems. This means that researchers in a wide range of fields, from medical to sports to security, will be able to analyze combined physiological functions and eye tracking data, a first of its kind combination.

MindWare's systems consist of hardware and software that measure and track such parameters as cardiac output, heart rate variability, EMG, EEG, and skin conductance. ASL develops and builds systems that track, record, and analyze human eye movements and pupil dynamics for eye-tracking applications that include use in moving vehicles, sports, web design, pupilometry and many more. ASL currently has tracking systems in the fields of medicine, cognitive psychology, training, simulation, biomechanics and human factors research.

According to Bob Baer, General Manager of ASL, the cooperation will primarily involve ASL's new Mobile Eye tetherless eye tracking system, in combination with MindWare's physiological data acquisition and analysis tools. Mobile Eye is a revolutionary new lightweight, tether-free wearable eye tracking system designed for applications where total freedom of movement is required. It's designed for indoor or outdoor use, delivering excellent results under a wide range of lighting conditions, and is both compact and rugged."

Mobile Eye eye tracking optics are unobtrusive and lightweight (less than 80g) and the recording device is small enough to be worn on a belt. These features will allow successful eye-tracking analysis across a wide range of active-subject sports and activities such as golf, baseball, archery, marksmanship, operation of motor vehicles and aircraft, and more.

Dave Lozano, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Gahanna, Ohio-based MindWare, said At MindWare, we develop biological instrumentation, for monitoring autonomic function. We have software that can analyze the acquired data and then provide all of the physiological parameters. Now, leveraging off each other's technologies, we can offer a new dimension – eye tracking – integrated with our technology. For example, now we can instrument an individual with a device that records cardiac output and EKG, in an ambulatory situation that combines it with one of their instruments and collects synchronous eye tracking parameters. It's now possible to correlate eye tracking to physiological phenomena and behavior such as pupil dilation No one else can really offer this combined set of tools. This gives us a very unique position in the market."

ASL's Bob Baer added, The combination of these two technologies will provide a unique window on a subject's physiology plus whatever the subject is immersed in, in a real-world scenario. Combine physiological responses with what the subject is looking at, how long are they looking at it, and how that affects their physiological functions, and from that a unique and valuable interpretation and analysis can be made."

MindWare Technologies, Ltd., with over 40 years of real-world engineering experience in both industry and academia, specializes in computer-based systems for data acquisition, stimulus presentation, and analysis software for psychophysiology research. Applied Science Laboratories has been a pioneer in the examination of the human eye's movements and pupil dynamics for over 30 years. ASL was the first company to develop a head-mounted eye tracker, eye/head integration, parallax-free optics, and many other features that are industry standard.
