TheBookInsider.com recently interviewed author T.J. Byron to discuss his book, "Elimination Theory: The Secret Covert Networks of Project Coast."

(PRWEB) September 14, 2005

T.J. Byron was born an only child to Dr. Leonard J. and Gerogine A. Byron on March 6, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. His father was a consultant psychologist and his mother a nurse. His father's job with a Chicago-based consulting firm took them to various postings throughout the world including Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe and West Africa. He studied for only six years in total in the USA at various private schools and later studied for four years in Switzerland. He went onto college in the United States obtaining a degree in Aeronautical Science at Mellon University in Florida. Prior to his involvement as an agent for the US and South African governments, he pursued a career in Engineering in the defense industry in Los Angeles, California, for five years. When he left Los Angeles in 1990, he started a career as an airline pilot, and he has flown for various airlines worldwide. He is presently based in London for a leading US carrier flying B747-400 aircraft.

** An excerpt from the interview:

THEBOOKINSIDER.COM: Thank you for taking the time to talk with you. Please tell us a bit about yourself.

T.J. BYRON: I am presently a pilot flying as Captain on the B747 aircraft based with a US cargo carrier in London, England. I have been flying now since leaving my work for the US Government in 1989. Before that I worked in the US defense industry in Los Angeles as a Designer working on various missile projects with sub-contractors to Hughes Aircraft. I travelled the world at a very young age as my father's work took him to many overseas postings and I did my high school education in Switzerland and later returned to the US for my university studies having graduated Mellon with a B.S. in Aeronautical Science.

THEBOOKINSIDER.COM: Who and/or what have been your biggest influences and why?

T.J. BYRON: My biggest influences in my life have been my father and my education in Switzerland. My father's work afforded me to travel, at an early age, to many parts of the world and see through the eyes of a child which is great when you go back years later and experience it has an adult. My 4 years in Switzerland, as a high school student, were magical and a time in my life that I will always cherish.

THEBOOKINSIDER.COM: "Elimination Theory" is an amazing true-life story of your your involvement as an informant and agent for the FBI's South African intelligence during the apartheid era and the CIA. What compelled you to write the book?

T.J. BYRON: What compelled me to write the book was the apparent suicide of Dr. Larry Ford in May 2000. Dr. Ford was a key player in project Coast and I worked with him in various capacities. Since I was never bound by any type of secrecy acts, I felt that the truth about Coast should be exposed from someone truly on the inside. Project Coast started in 1981 and it was set up to develop offensive and defensive chemical and biological weapons to be used by the security forces to control the black population and to be used for operational use in the Angolan War. It was also developed to manufacture protective clothing and antidotes against chemical and biological agents for the white population and the SADF troops. Project Coast was a program that had the purpose of protecting Afrikaanerdom in South Africa, eliminate most of its black population and contain its opponents at its borders. It was mainly aided covertly by the USA and Israeli Governments. No, it has not ended as all of the Afrikaans scientists that were involved are still alive, except for Dr. Ford and available for hire, meaning that they will work as mercennaries to the highest bidder. They can no longer work for the current black government and they offered their services to the US Government which flatly rejected to acknowledge them. So, in order to survive, the former Coast scientists have offered their services and knowledge of Coast research activities and pathogens that they still posess to any type of organization whether they are terrorists or not. These are one of the reasons why all of a sudden of the recent years we see panademics popping up all over the world that were once contained or even eradicated years ago.

BOOK SUMMARY:

Under apartheid, South Africa’s white minority regime felt threatened from within and outside its borders. The survival of the state was paramount in the minds of politicians and especially the military. Both shared a common belief that the country was at war, a total war which required a total response. To this end, a nuclear program was initiated in 1970 and the arms industry grew to a considerably large size. The leaders of the country decided to include chemical and biological weapons in their extensive arsenal, if only so that the military would have at its disposal a full range of a so-called range of unconventional weapons. The chemical and biological warfare program, code-named “Coast,” started in 1981 and officially ended in 1995, but that is still to be seen. Elimination Theory is the true story of my involvement as an informant/agent for the FBI, South African Intelligence, and the CIA during Project Coast and its networks in both the USA and South Africa.
