Garden Design Magazine Launches New Interactive Site to Connect Shoppers with Sellers of All Things Green

Garden Design magazine, a traditional print magazine, has linked its content to an online directory to allow readers to perform a local search for prodcuts and services. The online directory is powered by Green Industry Yellow Pages, an Interactive Media Publisher.

Winter Park, FL (PRWEB) September 16, 2005 -- In an effort to solve the age old magazine reader's question, "Where can I buy 'it' now that you've told me about it," Garden Design launched today, an online directory of thousands of green goods, retailers and service providers that consumers can search for on a local level.

Garden Design readers can now go to the online version of the publication -- www.gardendesign.com -- to search for local retailers that offer the products and services mentioned in the print version of the magazine. This is the first time a traditional print magazine has linked its content to allow readers to search for products or services locally on the Internet. Once the visitor to the Garden Design site finds what they are looking for online, they then can link to resources, like local garden centers or landscape designers, who sell those products or services.

Diane Turner, Garden Design publisher, expects to better serve their readers with the online information and resources plus provide new avenues for advertisers. "This is a major cross over event integrating traditional publishing with local search capabilities," says Turner. "For the first time we will be able to connect inspiration, information and ideas learned in our magazine with national brands and local shopping in a way that hasn't been tried before in our space."

The new site is being powered by Green Industry Yellow Pages (GIYP.com), the leading vertical directory in the lawn & garden industry. Interactive content combines inspiring gardening ideas from the magazine with plant information from leading experts. This upgrade is expected to increase foot traffic and sales for both national brands and local garden centers listed in the Garden Design directory.

"Now the loop is closed," explains Turner. "One of the biggest challenges our editorial staff faces is reporting where our readers can purchase the plants we write about. Now we offer great garden ideas and retailers all in one."

To provide this information on a local level, Garden Design will use the latest technology and "e-knowledge" available. One such tool is GIYP's Virtual Plant Tags. Access to this extensive database of flowers, roses, shrubs, vines and houseplants will allow Garden Design site visitors to search for plant cultural information 24/7 from green industry experts like Allan Armitage and Michael Dirr.

"The green industry can leverage the clout of a major garden magazine to reach new customers," says Steve Cissel, GIYP CEO and Founder. "This is as exciting for the little garden center as it is for a major brand."

Cissel says that a gold, silver or bronze listing on either site will automatically flow into the other. "That means you receive two great listings for the price of one," he explains.

Published by World Publishing, Garden Design is the world's leading resource for the intelligent, style-conscious gardener. It is the only design magazine that devotes more than 60 percent of its editorial content to gardens - from individual plants to backyard blueprints, from hot young design talents to the garden's rich history and how it shapes design today. GIYP.com provides information on over 150,000 businesses and over 38,000 plants on their Internet Yellow Pages (IYP). Visit www.giyp.com for more information.
