RMS partners with Lee County, Fla. Sheriff To Raise Funds for Police in Wake of Katrina

Sheriffs Office will collect old cell phones, then exchange them with RMS for cash, which will help officers in several stricken states.

OCALA, FL (PRWEB) September 17, 2005 -- RMS Communications Group Inc., one of the nations largest recyclers and re-marketers of old cell phones, announced today it will partner with the Lee County, Fla. Sheriffs Department to raise funds for law enforcement officers dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

An RMS spokesman said the partnership would operate under RMS 911 Cell Phone Bank, a program started by RMS a year ago to provide both cash and 911 emergency phones to law enforcement and community service agencies, as well as to selected non-profit organizations.

Under the agreement between RMS and the departments Victims Advocate Unit, citizens will drop off used cell phones at various Lee County Sheriffs Department locations in Ft. Myers, North Ft. Myers, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. RMS will pay cash for the phones, and the money will be sent to support police personnel who are working in areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama that were impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

The money will be distributed through the National Sheriffs Associations Adopt-A-Cop Family Program.

We are delighted to be a part of this effort," said James Mosieur, chief executive officer of RMS Communications Group Inc. We started the 911 Cell Phone Bank program more than a year ago, and it has already raised more than a quarter-million dollars for various law enforcement needs, and no need is greater than supporting the officers who have been working tirelessly in the wake of Hurricane Katrina."

Citizens can drop their old phones at any Sheriffs Office location. Large quantities of cell phones can be turned over through Victims Advocate Brenda Gellinger, reachable through 239-477-1195.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has been raising money for other purposes in partnership with RMS for some time. RMS provides the department with 911 emergency cell phones, which are used by seniors, crime victims and others. RMS also provides cash, which is deposited in a victim's fund.

RMS Communications Group Inc. operates a number of web sites, including www.CellForCash.com, which pays cash for used phones; www.WirelessFundraiser.com, which provides cash to non-profit organizations that collect and send in old cell phones; and www.RecycleForUS.com, an environmental initiative that helps companies, government agencies and other groups and individuals collect and recycle old cell phones.

The company also operates the 911 Cell Phone Bank program, through which it donates more than 1,000 cell phones every month to law enforcement and other agencies for use as 911 emergency phones.
