This "Discipline of Students With Special Needs" seminar will attempt to set forth clearly for the participant those areas that are necessary for increased understanding of the law, the need for systemic action and increased capacity, and decreased risk for the district, while meeting the needs of the student.

The seminar will attempt to set forth clearly for the participant those areas that are necessary for increased understanding of the law, the need for systemic action and increased capacity, and decreased risk for the district, while meeting the needs of the student.

Educating all children is certainly an enormous task. Educating all children while leaving no child behind is an ideal now written into law that reaches to levels only previously dreamed. Couple that with educating children with disabilities appropriately, and applying discipline that corresponds with their disability and you can see what have been legislatively confounding special educators and administrators for 30 years.

The American standards of education, civil rights, equal opportunity and equal access for all have been reiterated once again loudly and clearly with IDEIA. Like any other American endeavor, we believe we will rise to the occasion and continue to set the example for the world. This seminar will attempt to set forth clearly for the participant those areas that are necessary for increased understanding of the law, the need for systemic action and increased capacity, and decreased risk for the district, while meeting the needs of the student.

Nancy Hergenrother Seyfried, Ed. S., is an independent consultant in the areas of educational leadership, special education and staff development. She is adjunct faculty for Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio, and doctoral assistant in the Educational Leadership Department of the University of Dayton, while completing the requirements of the Ph.D. She has been a special education teacher, special education administrator and elementary principal. Ms. Seyfried holds degrees in special education and educational leadership. Her most recent publication is in the area of career paths of women in the superintendency.

Mildred D. Albert, LSW, is a former behavioral specialist, and traditional and Montessori teacher. She has also worked as a clinical therapist in a joint SBH program between an urban school district and a childrens treatment center. She also worked in the treatment centers early intervention program as a therapist for students displaying severe behavioral problems. As a social worker and mental health therapist, Ms. Albert worked on a hospital inpatient psychiatric unit and for a county Childrens Services (Ohio) and Department of Social Services (New York), focusing on the area of adoption and foster care. She is currently a doctoral student at the University of Dayton completing the requirements of the Ph.D. program in educational leadership. Ms. Alberts research area focuses on functional behavioral assessment and student behavioral issues.

This one-day seminar is designed for special education teachers and directors, principals, teachers, school social workers, psychologists, guidance counselors, case managers, superintendents and attorneys.
