Author Barbara Delinsky plans to compile a 5th Reunion edition of this invaluable resource for cancer patients, adding the voices of breast cancer survivors of five or more years. UPLIFT offers practical hints, words of wisdom, and humor by breast cancer surviviors, for breast cancer survivors, in their own words.
Delinsky asks. Five years later, were an inspiring group.

(PRWEB) September 28, 2005 -- This years Breast Cancer Awareness Month marks 4th anniversary of the publication of UPLIFT: Secrets from the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors and the launch of a new effort to compile a 5th Reunion edition of this resource for cancer patients. Library Journal called the first edition Invaluable…A sort of support group between covers."

The original book was compiled and edited by author Barbara Delinsky in 2000. Along with words of wisdom and upbeat anecdotes, the book contains useful woman-to-woman hints – things the doctor doesn't say – like practical advice on topics ranging from what deodorant to use during radiation, to what minimizes nausea during chemo, to how to feel feminine and upbeat. This advice comes first-hand, in the words of more than 350 breast cancer survivors, their sisters, children, parents, lovers, co-workers and friends.

Now Delinsky, a ten-year breast cancer survivor herself, is collecting material for a follow-up volume, to include words of encouragement from women who have survived five years or more. Five-year survival is a significant benchmark among cancer survivors, and a true cause for celebration.

Newly-diagnosed women should hear from us now, dont you think?" Delinsky asks. Five years later, were an inspiring group." Delinsky is asking breast cancer survivors of five or more years to share their news, activities, family events, reflections, words of wisdom, and stories of personal growth. A new chapter to UPLIFT? A whole new book? I dont know yet. All I know is that when I was first diagnosed, I would have loved to hear from a large group of long-term survivors."

The invitation is extended to breast cancer survivors everywhere to share their insights on surviving breast cancer, learning to conquer fear, and living with hope. Submissions can be made through the authors website, which also offers a breast cancer survivor guestbook and Quote of the Day. Entries will be accepted through the end of the year, but survivors are encouraged to respond during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As with the original UPLIFT, author proceeds of this sequel will be donated in their entirety to breast cancer research. In fact, more than $150,000 received from author proceeds to date have been instrumental in the establishment of a one-year fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital that offers a surgical oncologist an additional year of training focused on innovative breast cancer treatments and research. The fellowship is now in its third year.

Novelist Barbara Delinsky has written more than 70 books, including 16 New York Times bestsellers. A short biography of the author and a complete booklist is available for download as PDF, along with reader reviews and sample quotes from the book. The current edition of UPLIFT is available as a trade paperback from Washington Square Press (ISBN 0-7434-3137-5). Her most recent novel, LOOKING FOR PEYTON PLACE, was published by Scribner in July, 2005.
