Everything is illuminated. Based on the ground breaking novel, of young Jonathan Safran Foer, this movie premiere was celebrated at the Angel Orensanz Center with the presence of Jonathan Safran Foer, Elijah Wood and Live Schreiber, new actor and director. September 15.
Vision for New Orleans Artists. This is the response of the New York independent music community to the recent devastation in the Gulf Coast.. With John Zorn and trumpeter Dave Douglas; Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra; Bill Dixon and pianist Muhal Richard Abrams, the poet Amiri Baraka, Steve Buscemi, Matthew Shipp. Admission is $30.00. Tuesday, September 20, 5 to 12 Midnight.
The New Yorker Festival. A unique occasion to hear four prominent American writers read and comment their works. Nicole Kraus is the author of Man Walks into a Room, Bold Type; Ian McEwan has written Atonement. Mohammed Naseehu Ali arrived from Ghana into the US when he was 16 and is the author of prominent books like The Prophet of Zongo Street and Mallam Sile, Pulitzer Prize recipient Jhumpa Lahiri is the author of the book Interpreter of Maladies and The Namesake. This event is part of the prestigious New Yorker Festival. It will be on September 23 during the entire evening. The event is already sold out.
Bela Bartok. September 26 will mark the 60 anniversary of the death of Bela Bartok in New York. To mark such momentous day in the history of contemporary classical music, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra will present Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra from the Palace of Arts in Budapest at Midnight of September 25. Its conductor is Zoltan Kocsis. This special concerto (composed in New York) will have a simul-broadcast precisely at our location , when in NY is 6PM., accompanied by a unique light installation will rare footage of Bela Bartok. The admission is free.
Filmmakers Cooperative. The Foundation will house the most creative collective of American musicians and filmmakers. Among them, Steve Rich, Philip Glass, Mark Stewart and many others. Their music will be accompanied by original films and videos by Harry Smith, Bill Morrison, Donna Cameron (premiering a video about Angel Orensanz's work in Venice) and Ron Rice, among others. Admission is $40. Monday September 27. at 8 PM.
