VisibleOffice Announces Gumshoo.com Shopping Engine to Combat eBay Fraud

Today VisibleOffice, LLC announced the immediate availability of gumshoo.com, a free Web service aimed at combating eBay fraud.

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) November 25, 2005 -- Today VisibleOffice, LLC announced the immediate availability of gumshoo.com, a free Web service aimed at combating eBay fraud.

"eBay shopping is somewhat riskier than shopping with traditional retailers," said Craig Villamor, President of VisibleOffice. "There are plenty of great deals on eBay. Unfortunately, there are some dishonest sellers out there who are looking to take advantage of buyers, especially during the holidays. Gumshoo.com gives every eBay shopper the information they need to make more informed, and therefore, safer buying decisions."

Visitors to www.gumshoo.com will see a simple interface, similar to that of Google, Yahoo! or MSN Search. After entering a few search terms, such as "Ipod Nano" or "Louis Vuitton handbag", the service searches eBay for matching auctions and filters out auctions it determines have "questionable" content. "We filter out auctions that contain words or phrases commonly associated with fraud," said Villamor. "There's no point in showing our users a listing for the latest work at home scheme just because it also happened to match the phrase 'Star Wars'."

eBay auctions viewed through the gumshoo.com service are automatically scanned for a variety of risk indicators including seller reputation, location and suspicious item description among others. When the service finds potential risks, it informs the seller through four categories of alerts and advises them on how to proceed. "We're providing our customers with the information and advice they need to become expert eBay shoppers and to avoid becoming victims of fraud. No other Web site provides this kind of information to eBay's shoppers," Villamor said. "We think that every eBay shopper deserves to be informed of potential risks before they bid."

Gumshoo.com is currently in beta and is available, free of charge, at www.gumshoo.com.
