London/Nuenen (PRWEB) March 29, 2005 -- Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst, will officialy opened Ons Net Broadband Network in the Dutch City of Nuenen this week and launched the worlds first community TV channel powered by Narrowstep.

In a period of just over a year, Nuenen completed possibly the worlds most sophisticated broadband network with speeds of more than 10Megabytes per connection.

The Fiber To The Home (FTTH) project was started by a local housing corporation and 97% of all households have subscribed to the services of Ons Net.

Nuenens Broadband Community TV Channel, www.onsnetonline.nl could become the centrepiece for communication for the entire population of Nuenen.

The TV Channel which has a 24-hour programming schedule combined with a unique easy to use" on demand search function for all programmes, uses Narrowsteps TV Station In A Box platform.

Kees Rovers, Managing Director of Close the Gap and Innoventia BV, one of the initiators of Ons Net said Ons Net in Nuenen will be an inspiration to rest of the world for new broadband services and applications, similar to how the town of Nuenen inspired one of the worlds greatest artists, Vincent van Gogh".

Narrowstep has signed an agreement with Innoventia BV to run onsnetonline.nl as a pilot project for a period of three months. The video content will initially consist of a variety of local productions focussing on cultural events, sports, local government information, informational health programmes, regional promotion etc.

By applying Narrowsteps Adserver all programmes can be easily inserted with local and national advertising.

Iolo Jones, CEO of Narrowstep said, Ons Net in Nuenen is the perfect example of how local television will be shaping the future of broadcasting. As a company we are proud to be part of this development."
