Media Alert: Over 100 Swimmers to Take the Plunge in the Inaugural Lady Liberty Swim on Sunday, May 29

The Manhattan Island Foundation opens the ‘2005 Summer Swim Series’ with the inaugural Lady Liberty Swim. Over 100 swimmers are expected to compete in the first of eight races this season.

What: The inaugural Lady Liberty Swim

When: Sunday, May 29, 2005

Start: 7:00 a.m., Hudson River Park’s Pier 45 at Christopher Street

Finish: North Cove Yacht Harbor, Battery Park City

Distance: 1.3 miles

Who: Over 100 swimmers representing NYC’s five boroughs, the states of New Jersey, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as Brazil and Japan

Details: The first finishers should reach the North Cove at approximately 7:30 a.m., depending on currents. Awards will be given for top age group male and female finishers.

The swims are organized and sponsored by the Manhattan Island Foundation (MIF), Hudson River Park Trust, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Battery Park City Parks Corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
