A winter storm hit ResortQuest Breckenridge, with over 350 Breckenridge vacation rentals, and other nearby resorts with a vengeance late Wednesday, October 25 and left the area covered in over 15 inches of wet, early season snow.

Officials rushed to close Interstate 70, the state's primary east-west thoroughfare, as hundreds of motorists found themselves stuck and stranded on the side of the road. Highway 285, connecting Denver and Colorado Springs to Breckenridge from a southern route, has also been shut down temporarily. Additionally, the heavy snow shut down all local schools and many across the front range Denver/Boulder area. Even for a high-alpine resort that is accustomed to winter storms, this one shook the county.
