Breckenridge, Colorado is reeling from one of the first winter storms of the season. The storm hit ResortQuest Breckenridge, with over 350 Breckenridge vacation rentals, and other nearby resorts with a vengeance late Wednesday, October 25 and left the area covered in over 15 inches of wet, early season snow. Officials rushed to close Interstate 70, the state's primary east-west thoroughfare, as hundreds of motorists found themselves stuck and stranded on the side of the road. Highway 285, connecting Denver and Colorado Springs to Breckenridge from a southern route, has also been shut down temporarily. Additionally, the heavy snow shut down all local schools and many across the front range Denver/Boulder area. Even for a high-alpine resort that is accustomed to winter storms, this one shook the county.

Despite the inconveniences, the early storm was a blessing in disguise for the area ski resorts. Summit County is home to 5 major Colorado Ski Resorts within a 20 mile radius, including Breckenridge Ski Area, and is largely considered the hub of the Colorado ski culture. With the ski season fast approaching, locals and resort officials alike welcomed the snow with open arms.
