Canyon Travel Offers First Class Train Travel with Open Deck Railcar

The newly acquired Pullman railcar traverses Mexico's Copper Canyon, some of the most biologically outstanding and diverse habitats on the planet.

Bulverde, TX (PRWEB) January 3, 2006 -- Canyon Travel recently made a new addition to its Copper Canyon train travel offerings by acquiring a 1950 Pullman Standard Passenger Railcar modified with a 20-foot open deck that operates on Mexico's Chihuahua Pacific Railroad. The first class passenger train pulls the railcar as it traverses through the Sonoran-Sinaloan forests, the transition of the Neartic and the Neotropical biomes. The railway then climbs 8,000 ft. into the Western Sierra Madre, with the highest diversity of pines and oaks, and skirts the Copper Canyon before terminating in the Chihuahuan Desert.

This railway engineering achievement, with nearly 11 miles of tunneling and 2.25 miles of bridging, serpentines through habitats listed by the major scientific organizations as the world’s 200 most biologically diverse and crucial areas for preservation.

The open deck design enables passengers an open-air train travel adventure through the pine-scented Sierra Madre. The railcar is attached at the rear of the Chihuahua Pacific train and affords passengers panoramic views as they sit on deck chairs, sip on top-shelf margaritas and snack on fresh ceviche. Canyon Travel also operates remote small lodges in partnership with local communities.

With the acquisition of the railcar, the operator now offers charters for groups of 12 to 20 persons with private lodging and a private railcar. Exclusive lodging and a private railcar are ideal for birding groups, alumni and museum educational travel groups, rail buff groups, family groups, wedding groups, and more.

The air-conditioned railcar, with inside seating, will soon have a new interior and it will be named the Cibola Express to honor Cabeza de Vaca who walked six thousand miles from Galveston to Northern Sinaloa. He befriended and protected the Native Americans and he described the Sonoran Sinaloan area as “no doubt, the most prolific land in all these Indies.”

Canyon Travel's Copper Canyon train travel tours operate with an experienced train master and with naturalist trained resident guides at the lodges. The operator has scheduled departures throughout 2006 starting at $999 per person. The railcar has been mechanically serviced by Ferromex, owner-operator of the railroad, at their rail yard in Chihuahua City.
