Author Ministers to Women on the Down-Low
Author releases new book that focuses on same-sex attraction amongst women in the Christian church. Includes encouragement for survivors of childhood molestation and abuse.
High Point, NC (PRWEB) January 1, 2006 -- Since J.L. King’s bestselling book On the Down Low was released, communities have been discussing the hidden sexual relationships of men. In a new book by Tracy L. Howell, Womankind: When a Woman Loves a Woman (now available through AuthorHouse), she stresses the need for the Christian church to address the secret lives of women by ministering to them instead of admonishing their behavior.
“Brothers aren’t the only ones on the down low,” Howell writes. Drawing on her personal experiences with sexual confusion, she gives Christian women a place to turn for help while declaring that “sexual relationships between the same sex are not the will of God for mankind or womankind,” she writes. Her own story of sexual molestation and a lack of male role models helps her reach out to others who struggle with same-sex attraction. She provides words of encouragement and wisdom to any woman who desires fulfilling, wholesome relationships, while also challenging modern congregations to “be real.”
Womankind begins with the creation of man and woman and moves on to discuss the pros and cons of feminism. The battle of the sexes is examined from a biblical standpoint. She touches on how platonic relationships between women can become unbalanced, which turns genuine concern and care for another into something beyond a typical friendship.
“The Christian church is summoned to take its rightful place -- not just to stand in verbal opposition to any homosexual agenda, but to stand as a place of hope and healing for those who are broken and helpless,” Howell writes.
Howell, a native of North Carolina, was ordained as a minister at age 22. She has ministered everywhere from prisons and churches of various denominations to homeless shelters and the street corners of Alaska. A frequent speaker at singles’ and women’s conferences, she has chosen to use her own life as a gateway to helping others. Womankind is her first book.
