Filmmaker Endorses Alito’s Nomination

Filmmaker who focused on the United States Constitution compares Samuel Alito to Chief Justice John Marshal.

(PRWEB) January 3, 2006 -- “Speaking as a filmmaker and historian, Judge Samuel Alito reminds me of Chief Justice John Marshall,” says award winning writer and filmmaker Dean J. Augustin, “It would be difficult to find anyone more qualified to sit on the bench.”

Augustin’s 2004 film, Anthem, explored the essence of the Untied States Constitution and had one critic comment, “Anthem has to be one of the most unbiased, fair and interesting assessments of the American people and the American constitution I've seen."

“Because of the research I did for Anthem I find that both Marshall and Alito have one thing in common, they view the Constitution as force for national unity,” says the McKinney, Texas based filmmaker. “Both men respect the powers of Congress and the rights of individuals.”

Anthem, which won a Remi Award at the 2005 Houston International Film Festival, relies heavily on exploring the United States Constitution from an impartial point of view. “I wanted to challenge myself first,” says Augustin. “Did I really understand the Constitution?” The result was a highly personalized drama-documentary that seems especially timely with the Alito nomination process starting.

“I hope that people who support or oppose Judge Alito take the time to examine his record and not rely exclusively on special interest groups half truths.” According to Augustin, “While reproductive rights and labor issues are a legitimate concern for some people, I believe that Judge Alito would always put the Constitution ahead of politics and weather you are a republican or democrat ultimately you are an American first.”
