NW Women's Hall of Fame Nominations Due Jan. 20

(PRWEB) January 7, 2006 -- Nominations for the eighth annual Northwest Women’s Hall of Fame are due at the YWCA, 1026 N. Forest, Bellingham 98225 by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20.
Forms are available from the YWCA (734-4820) or on the Web at www.ywcabellingham.org.
Nominees must live, or have lived (if deceased) in Whatcom County, have accomplished something of lasting significance, been a model for women and girls, and faced challenges or obstacles to their achievements.
Among the 25 women honored since 1999 are Fran James (Lummi artist), Joanne Gardner (Laurendeau Foundation for Cancer Cure), the late civic leader Kitty Stimpson, Josselyn Winslow (Alzheimer’s Society), Wendy Scherrer (Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association), Marty Snyder (Opportunity Council), Pat Fabiano (campus/community health), Noriko Lao (“super volunteer”) and Claire vg Thomas (Lynden cultural leader).
Honorees will be celebrated at a 4:30 p.m. dinner Sunday, March 19 at NorthWood Hall.
As it approaches its 2007 Centennial, the YWCA offers the only transitional housing for single women in Whatcom County, the Back-to-Work Boutique for low-income women and various other programs based on the YWCA’s national mission: Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women.
