CES 2006, Las Vegas (PRWEB) January 7, 2006
Vidanti today announced the launch of their first product addressing the Entertainment-over-Broadband market. Utilizing media and voice processing chipsets from Conexant Systems, the BBTV4000 IP Entertainment Gateway™ (IPEG) set top box offers unrivaled features for triple play IPTV.
“The breadth of our product portfolio allows customers such as Vidanti to use a single vendor for new convergence products,” said Manjit Gill, Division Director for Conexant’s Broadband Media Processing business. “We are pleased that they have chosen to use both our set-top box and broadband access semiconductor solutions for their innovative new IPTV gateway.”
Paul Walsh, Vidanti CEO, said: "We believe that the BBTV4000 launch is a very important event for the nascent IPTV market. It provides IP-based voice, data and High Definition video applications using the integrated BBTVsoft™ software suite. Although highly-featured, it is a very low-cost solution. The BBTV4000 is more than a set-top box; it‘s an IPTV Entertainment Gateway."
IPTV appeals to consumers because it gives control over TV schedule and content. Combined with the ability to simultaneously communicate through email, messaging or low-cost Voice-over-IP phone calls, it gives the consumer previously unknown flexibility and features without the need for a PC.
Available to consumer electronics brands and service providers as a white label product, the fully integrated platform enables them to offer a powerful and customisable entertainment gateway that supports revenue-generating services such as video-on-demand (VoD) straight out of the box. The BBTV4000 with BBTVSoft software is the first to offer such innovative and compelling features at a low cost point. Features include:
- Decode of MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) and MPEG-2 High Definition TV to 1080i and 720p resolutions
- Voice-over-IP supporting voicemail, caller ID and call forwarding
- DVR with integrated hard disk drive to record or pause live TV
- Optional Free-to-air digital TV (DVB-T)
- WLAN for sharing audio files and photos
- Internet-based applications on the TV such as web browsing, online gaming, email and messaging services
The Vidanti BBTVSoft suite is ‘network hardened’ software already deployed in over 30 million customer premises broadband devices. It has been optimized for maximum efficiency with Conexant’s silicon. The flexible architecture offered by the BBTV4000 and BBTVSoft allows the service provider to add further applications in the future through a network download. “Conexant’s semiconductors provided a powerful engine for the true triple play capabilities of BBTVsoft”, added Walsh, “and removing software royalties from the equation makes mass rollout of IPTV a more cost-efficient proposition”.
