February 4th is World Cancer Day

February 4th is World Cancer Day, focusing on Children’s Cancer for 2006. Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children today. Join the World Cancer Day Project sponsored by the Luke Neuhedel Foundation by contributing gift certificates to restaurant for kids fighting cancer.

(PRWEB) January 10, 2006 -- February 4th is World Cancer Day, focusing on Children’s Cancer for 2006. Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children today. Every day 46 children in the US are diagnosed with cancer. More children have cancer than AIDS, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and congenital anomalies COMBINED. The rate of children’s cancer is increasing at a rate of 1% annually. In fact, the rate of cancer in young adults and teens is increasing at a greater rate than any other cancer, including breast, prostrate, and lung.

Children’s cancer, in addition to threatening the life of a child, causes additional financial and emotional strain on families. Treatment for children typically lasts three or more years, and children who survive cancer have a greater risk of developing a residual cancer in adulthood. Learn more about children’s cancer at www.lukefund.org.

The Luke Neuhedel Foundation asks that you recognize children’s cancer on World Cancer Day by remembering a child with cancer. Help by sending a gift certificate for any fast food restaurant to the Luke Neuhedel Foundation for a child with cancer. Gift certificates will be distributed to children fighting cancer in the NY area. While a child may receive a hospital meal three times a day, the parent who stays with them does not. When a child is living at a hotel or facility such as Ronald McDonald House during their treatment, they must supply their own food. Show you care by sending a gift certificate in any amount to: Luke Neuhedel Foundation, World Cancer Day Project, PO Box 137, Massapequa Park NY 11762. Questions? Want to help more? Luke Neuhedel Foundation is a 501c3 charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer through grants and family fun events. LNF was established in memory of Luke Neuhedel, who died of hepatoblastoma at age 3 in 2002, by Luke’s parents, siblings, and friends. LNF has provided aid, donations, and toys to thousands of kids fighting cancer in the United States. LNF is able to grant 100% of all funds directly to children with cancer because LNF is staffed entirely by volunteers. Many of the volunteers are young people, who donate their time to help their peers fight their deadly disease.
