Paramount PDS Expands Rapid Prototyping/Tooling Operations

Paramount PDS, a leading provider of product development services, has significantly expanded its rapid prototyping and rapid tooling operations with the addition of a new SLA stereolithography installation at its Langhorne PA product development and on-demand manufacturing complex.

Paramount PDS has announced a major expansion of its rapid prototyping and tooling operations with the addition of a new SLA “Viper si2” stereolithography installation at its Langhorne, Pennsylvania product development and on-demand manufacturing complex.

Paramount, a leading provider of product development services for the past 40 years, has been a pioneer in production of precision prototypes and tooling direct from digital input. In addition to SLA, the firm was one of the first major service providers to successfully apply selective laser sintering (SLS) in on-demand manufacturing of production parts.

In announcing the addition of SLA Viper facilities, Paramount founder and CEO Jim Williams noted that major applications for the technology will be in small precision parts for medical, electronics, homeland security and defense-aerospace applications. He noted that the strength and durability of prototypes made from the SLA process have been significantly enhanced by new generations of resins with superior heat-bearing characteristics. The company also applies SLA technology and ceramic reinforced resins to build wax injection tooling for metal investment casting.

Precision tolerances of up to 0.002 inches can now be achieved using new-generation materials, he said.

Paramount has been a prominent supplier to the medical electronics and defense and aerospace industries. Customers for its services have included Boston Scientific, Colgate, Ethicon, Raytheon and the U.S. Department of Defense.
