A New Contest: Ditch Your Career Goals In 2006

Ditchyouresume.com and will collect inspiring and original stories of job seekers who got jobs by luck, attraction and serendipity. The best story will get announced at the end of March 2006.

London, UK (PRWEB) January 16, 2006 -- Ditchyouresume.com launches a campaign to document cases when job hunters found the job of their dreams in unconventional ways. The site’s founder Thei Zervaki says, “I ditched my career goals and I tried serendipity. It worked, I got a job”. Ditchyouresume.com is an alternative to resume writing and traditional job hunting.

Ditchyouresume.com and will collect inspiring and original stories of job seekers who got jobs by luck, attraction and serendipity. The best story will get announced at the end of March 2006. “The lucky winner will get three hours of free career coaching,” says Ditchyouresume.com founder, Thei Zervaki.

Zervaki never believed in traditional ways of job hunting and is a supporter of luck, attraction and serendipity in job search. “I've always been fascinated by people who fall into their careers, get jobs easily and by luck. I remembered the lady who while flying was chatting to the person next to her. When she landed, she had a job in Hawaii”. Had she followed the traditional path she would not have been open to the possibility of serendipity in the process of job seeking.

Zervaki believes we can make more chance events happen. Ditchyouresume.com’s top five “get lucky in your career tips” include:

1.   Ditch your career goals. Forget about the big job titles and fat paychecks. Forget fame and international travel, all fantasies you may have when applying for jobs. Instead, enjoy life now.

2.     Choose freedom over security. Most of us, if not all, choose safety. We are happy in our comfort zone, we like routine and we are afraid of change. If you really want something new, you will have to be free. Don’t ask for guarantees of your future success.

3.   Connect. Connectivity is the must have asset in 2006. When you are with people, listen with the eyes and see with the ears. Offer help. Build relationships. Follow up. Don’t expect everything from others – rather give something back without any expectation.

4.   Ditch your resume. Only one job offer is made for every 1,400 resumes sent out in the USA. Recruitment firms sort the thousands of resumes daily with only 1% receiving a thorough read through. More than a third of all open positions are filled by internal transfers and promotion. The resume by itself is not enough to get the desired job. Do you really need one?

5.   Be willing to be disrupted. If things do not happen the way you want them to be or have planned, don’t worry. When it does happen, it’s a sign, not a nuisance. Embrace it instead and explore what it means.
