Phil Collins, an experienced and certified alcohol addiction counsellor, is offering training in the physical and psychological effects of alcohol addiction. Specializing in alcohol, drug, and other addictive behaviors, his new website (http://www.AlcoholAddictionMidWales.co.uk) offers a unique opportunity to those suffering from alcohol addiction to receive the help they need to overcome their addictions and begin living a more fulfilling life. The site functions to connect users to counselling opportunities and links for education on all aspects of alcohol addiction.
According to a report published by the Prime Ministers Strategy Unit in September 2003, the overall cost of alcohol addiction to the UK is estimated at 18 to 20 billion pounds. The cost of crime related to alcohol addiction is approximately 1.5 billion pounds, and the costs related to drunk driving reach as high as 525 million pounds. The casual and social use of alcohol is widespread. Consequently, there is a growing minority for whom alcohol becomes an addiction.
In describing alcohol addiction, Collins points out that it goes beyond an intense craving and become an obsessive response to stress or a way to avoid pain. As alcohol consumption becomes the stress response of choice, the alcohol addiction consumes the life of the addict. Collins is quick to point out that alcohol addiction is treatable, as it is a matter of choice.
"In my opinion, an addiction--whether it is to alcohol, drugs or food--is a choice," said Collins. "No one has to drink alcohol or take drugs; what they are doing is choosing to take them."
Through his updated website, Collins offers a multidimensional approach to treating alcohol addiction. This includes components such as individual, group and family support, alcohol awareness training, and follow-up treatment. Collins’ website allows people with alcohol addiction to get direct access to one-on-one counseling, information on all aspects of alcohol addiction and other addiction problems, and links to helpful resources such as Alcoholics Anonymous. Collins also offers training for addiction treatment professionals as well as an original alcohol awareness training manual and supervision in counselling.
