Port Washington Schools Protect Taxpayer Dollars and Student Population- With Report it.

Joining a growing number of school districts on Long Island that are committed to combating fraud, the Port Washington Union Free School District has signed an agreement with Report it, a confidential third party Internet and telephone hotline system that allows whistleblowers to report wrongdoing, fraud and potentially dangerous situations anonymously.

Great River, NY (PRWEB) January 13, 2006 -- Joining a growing number of school districts on Long Island that are committed to combating fraud, the Port Washington Union Free School District has signed an agreement with Report it, a confidential third party Internet and telephone hotline system that allows whistleblowers to report wrongdoing, fraud and potentially dangerous situations anonymously.

This latest contract with Report it represents an extension of Port Washington’s ongoing partnership with Report it. Four years ago the school district contracted with Report it to provide anonymous hotline services as a pipeline to early detection, intervention and prevention of critical issues facing teens including suicide, bullying, drugs and violence. In the wake of the recent accounting scandals, most notably in the neighboring Roslyn School District, Port Washington has added Report it as a fraud prevention tool.

“Post Roslyn, everyone is on high alert particularly regarding misuse of taxpayer dollars. Our intent is to let community at large know there’s another avenue of communication to report fraud or someone not doing his or her job,” explained Mary Callahan, assistant superintendent for business for the Port Washington School District. “These things add to the perception of school district, and perception has a way of becoming reality. Report it can help us address these concerns proactively.”

"Report it was initially conceived in the wake of the unprecedented violence at Columbine High School,” said Report it founder Anthony Lavalle, “But its utility has proven to be far greater. The accounting scandals at Enron and Tyco, as well as in Roslyn, and the ensuing Sarbanes-Oxley Act have made Report it ever more relevant.”
In both the education and corporate environments, people may be reluctant to report serious problems directly to a supervisor or to an internal company-operated anonymous hotline for fear of retribution or retaliation. Report It assures anonymity and affords the opportunity to report candidly about perceived problems through a third-party.

In a business application, employees, customers, and vendors can report potential violations of company policy or procedures including ethics, compliance and fraud. In an educational setting, users can report concerns about school safety and violence prevention, as well as fraud and other abuses.

About Report it
Founded in 1999, Report it is the first company to harness the power of the internet to provide a secure 24/7 technology based anonymous hotline. Report it was formed to allow individuals who suspect wrongdoing or are aware of potentially harmful situations to report it without fear of reprisal. Today, many publicly listed NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX companies rely on Report it for their Sarbanes-Oxley section 301 requirements. Report it is also the preferred anonymous hotline service provider for private companies, non-profit organizations, schools and hospitals.
